Jama Masjid is one of the largest mosques in India. Built by Shah Jahan at an estimated cost of 1 million rupees, a rather astronomical figure for that era, the grand mosque has three gates, four towers and two high minarets made of marble and red sandstone. The mosque is one of the last monuments built by Shah Jahan and it remained a royal mosque of the emperors until the end of the Mughal regime.
